Information
Some important information and prevention resources to help keep you and your family safe.
Burn Permits
The Fire District does not issue burn permits. Burn Permits can be obtained by contacting the Alabama Forestry Commission at 1-800-942-3107. There are fines for illegal burning. State Law requires property owners to control fires on their property. The Fire District can assess a fee for fire fighting operations that are caused by illegal burning. Fires left unattended, burning too close to neighbors homes (state law requires 500 feet separation), set without any type of extinguishment available, no state permit, or during declared drought emergencies may require that they be extinguished. The Fire District can issue a fee of up to $1000.00 or more, if our services are required.
Be advised Lawrence County has a standing NO BURN ORDER issued by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. This order is in place from May – October. There are serious fines for burning during this time. If you have any questions, please contact ADEM at 1-888-271-7879. At no time are you allowed to burn tires, garbage, or other hazardous materials. This is both a state and federal law.
